CLASSROOM ATTIRE
Our dress code guidelines are designed to create a sense of equity and inclusion, to encourage unity and discipline in the classroom, and to allow for the clear presentation of classwork in all its essential bodily elements so that the instructor can provide appropriate corrections and feedback to each student. Students must adhere to dress code guidelines, or they will not be allowed to participate.
Important Note: Dance practice clothing is considered inappropriate street wear. Students should arrive and depart from the studio wearing street clothes or a cover-up and shoes over their dance attire.
All Students Hair must be secured away from the face and off of the neck. If a ponytail is long enough to hit the face, it must be pinned against the head in a bun or with a barrette. Short hair should be styled back from the face or secured with a headband or barrettes. No watches or jewelry, with the exception of post earrings. Ballet slippers should have elastic sewn securely and the drawstrings should be tied in a knot and tucked inside the shoes. Names should be placed in all shoes, in case they are left at the studio. In order for each student to receive proper, kinesiologically-based instruction for injury-free training, the full body must be seen. Therefore, no street clothes, sweatpants, t-shirts, or sweatshirts are allowed in class. During the winter months, legwarmers and dance sweaters are allowed. Students Identifying as Female:Solid colored leotard; pink tights and pink ballet slippers, or tights and slippers that are slightly lighter than student's skin tone. Underwear should not be worn under dance attire (like swimsuits). If a bra is worn, leotard should completely cover it. Leotard must be worn over tights. Slippers must match the color of tights worn. Students Identifying as Male: Solid colored t-shirt; footed black tights with black slippers, OR black dance shorts with black, white, or flesh-toned slippers. Underwear should be worn under attire for younger students; dance belts should be worn starting at age 12. T-shirt should not be baggy or overlong. Open Classes: Ballet slippers are required. Comfortable, form-fitting clothing is recommended: leotard and tights, yoga pants, leggings, etc.
